Civil Record source information and further research

The Marano Marchesato Civil Records Indeces were transcribed by viewing microfilms or digital images of original records or indeces published by the Genealogical Society of Utah.  The data on this list is subject to human error and should not be used as a source citation in your research.   A person with the same name as your ancestor is not necessarily your ancestor.  Please utilize this index to facilitate your search for and your ultimate study of the documents on the FamilySearch microfilm or digital image.  There is so much more information to be found on the actual record from which this index is derived!

If you wish to locate a record in one of the indeces, take note of the FHC Film,  DGS Number, and Image start number listed on the top of each year’s index.  This will help you more quickly navigate to the referenced index page on the digital image.

Digital images of the records are available for viewing at a local family history center or many affiliate libraries.  Family Search.org has a locator to help you locate an FHC or affiliate library closest to you.  If you plan a visit to a library listed as an affiliate, note that you may not be able to access the images at that library depending on the level and current status of the library’s affiliation.

In preparation for your visit to the library, bring your list of what you want to find including the film or DGS number and image start location.  Bring a flash drive so that you may save your findings and bring them home with you.  When you arrive at the library, consult a librarian for which computers can access Family Search for genealogy research and whether or not you need to register your library card in order to log into their computers.  Libraries vary in their rules.  When you have successfully logged into FamilySearch.org from the computer, you may locate the Marano Marchesato images as follows:

  1. Perform a search of the FamilySearch catalog for Marano Marchesato and click until you find a list that looks like the following: www.familysearch.org
  2. Once you have arrived at the page listing the record collections and corresponding film and DGS numbers, there should be a camera icon on the far right that does NOT have a key over it. Click on the camera icon adjacent to the Film/DGS that you would like to open. If there is a key above the camera icon, this may mean that you cannot view the record from the computer you are using.  Consult with a librarian and confirm whether you accessed FamilySearch correctly through their affiliation with FamilySearch.
  3. When you have opened the file with the images, you will be confronted with hundreds of unindexed images. Refer to the Image Start number from the Families from Marano Marchesato index and you will be able to jump directly to the first page of the index for that year’s birth, marriage, or death records.  Find your ancestor’s name on the digital index to confirm that it as transcribed on this website and that you are in the correct spot. If you find an error or discrepancy in the transcribed index on this website, please jot it down and let us know how it should be corrected.  If you cannot find your ancestor’s name as we transcribed it, or any other names that should be on that list, you may not be in the correct year.  Scroll forward or backward to view adjacent record dates to determine where you are in the list of images.
  4. When you are ready to look for the actual record, you may need to go forward or backwards from the index depending on whether the index was presented before or after the year of records.
